Goals, Goals & More Goals
Goals, Goals & More Goals

Always interesting when you start to talk to people about their goals. Not everyone knows what they want. I think really what stops people from setting goals is they get into the “how do I achieve that goal” and before you know it they have decided not to set the goal for fear they may not achieve it.
This can sometimes be the case with goals for money. People want the holidays, they want the mortgage paid off, but when they start to worry about the “how” it all gets too hard and they just keep doing what they have always done.
I try to teach people to set small financial goals. Chunk them down. Rather than planning the 3 month European trip in 5 year’s time, how about whilst we have that one on the vision board, you start to plan a smaller achievable holiday in the next 12 months. Let’s get that one done and then move to bigger goals. The same with paying off a mortgage. Instead of worrying how you are going to do it, set small goals of say $5000 reduction and work towards this goal.
The brain loves success and when we get the result we want it tells the brain that the goals we set are in fact achievable. This leads to confidence, which leads to action and opportunity. Action is a key factor in goals for without it they are really just dreams.
Whatever you goal is, if it’s a financial goal start small and work your way up. I’ve seen the evidence plenty of times over the years now of people who set smaller goals, achieve them time and time again and build the confidence to go for the bigger goal.
It definitely works you just have to convince the brain that when you set a goal you achieve so I believe in setting yourself up for success by tackling 1 small gaol at a time and building on from there.
Happy financial goal setting!
