This week, we have unashamedly been in awe of entrepreneur Emma Isaacs, Founder & Global CEO of Business Chicks, business woman extraordinaire, mother of five, wife and beautiful person; primarily because we have learnt so much about what makes this woman tick, and we love it!

Firstly though, if you haven’t read this week’s SHINE’ing the Spotlight Story, please do as our interview with Emma gives us a little more insight into this lady and covers a few areas not discussed in her book. 

Winging It, Emma’s first book – and I’m certain they’ll be more, there has to be as this lady has a talent! – has made it to #2 on this week’s ‘Best Seller’ list, and I would say that it will be right up there for weeks to come. Here are our ‘top 5’ takeaways from Winging It…

1) Be Kind & Make People Feel Special

Emma continuously enforces the importance of supporting others, being kind, generous (but protective) of our time and making people feel special. Lift others up and don’t put them down. I’ve been on the receiving end of this directly from Emma over the past couple of weeks and truly it’s fantastic and incredibly motivating and uplifting (thank you Emma!); you’ll create your best advocates this way.

2) Choose Courage not Comfort

This is another theme that is constant through-out Emma’s book. Face your fears, take a chance and don’t be afraid to give things a go. I relate this back to my favourite quote:

If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always have what you’ve always had – Henry Ford

I’ve tried and proven this a number of times in my business, and it’s often hard to face these self-doubts –  that we all have by the way – and push yourself; but I promise that the results are worth it if you’re prepared to  give it a shot.

3) Sort out Your Finances

Don’t be afraid of money, focus on the good it can do to help others, build businesses and enrich lives rather than worrying about how much you’re making. Understand money, how it can work for you and check your bank balances every day so that you know exactly where you stand.

And if you don’t know what you’re doing, ask someone to teach you. We had amazing examples that came out of this at our recent inaugural SHINE Business Women’s Conference (check out @Lynn Levitt at Finance 4 Females for some of these stories), and Emma has fantastic strategies in her book to help you in this regard but also don’t be afraid to seek help, it’s how we all learn.

4) Network like a Champion

Like Emma, we are the Queen’s of Networking here at SHINE Business Women, and I’ve always attributed building relationships to being a major factor of success. People are the most important element of any business – staff, clients, suppliers and associates. Emma will teach you ways to focus in this area, which not only builds a business but will enrich your life with rewarding friendships and social interactions.

5) Question: How do You have it All? Answer: We don’t!

And we never will! Many people touch on this, especially women in business and Emma’s way of tackling how to release guilt, promoting how you should not be all things to all people at any one time and prioritising what’s important is truly the biggest take-away of the book. Emma is blunt and forthright in how she guards her time and YES – in my opinion, she has it nailed perfectly (and inoffensively!).

When you read Emma’s tips on the elusive life balance, you will find release, permission to SHINE and you’ll wonder why you ever felt guilty or ashamed that you don’t have it all worked out. Trust me, you will never look back!
