Krishna, you’ve had an exciting career to date and so many diverse roles…tell us a little bit about your background?

I had intended to do nursing but slipped into newspaper advertising, where I stayed for 13 years. I finally followed my dream for a health career as an aerobics instructor and sales manager for a fitness club, taking their membership from 150 to 1400 over 5 years. After obtaining my health promotion degree I was contracted to write policy for an area health service, before moving to Queensland to start a new life with a young family as a self-employed business owner in 2004. Combining my health and marketing skills, I’ve been there ever since.

You talk a lot about marketing and brand, can you share three tips on how people can get best results from their marketing?

1. Know your audience. Their needs and deepest desires. Find their sweet spot and incorporate that into your marketing message.

2. Put yourself in the client’s shoes. Meet them where they are at. Give them what they want so you can offer them what they need.

3. Review and re-evaluate.  Be consistent, but stay relevant.

What career or personal achievement are you most proud of?

I left school in year 10 but decided to go to university at 30 to study health promotion. It took 7 years part-time while working and starting a family, but I did it! Completing my degree was a very proud moment.

You work in the ‘health and wellness’ area of Marketing and have leaned towards that field for a long time. What makes this industry different from others?

Health and wellness is a fundamental human right for individuals and across communities. It is multi-faceted, holistic in nature, and is absolutely necessary for the quality of life across the lifespan. I have always been drawn to it, and am at my happiest working in this field.

What do you feel are the traits of a strong and effective leader?

An effective leader is visionary. They are not afraid to venture into unchartered territory and encourage others to do the same. They are curious and prepared to go outside their comfort zones. They inspire!

And what’s next on the agenda for Krishna Everson?

There are some exciting developments in the pipeline for health on The Sunshine Coast and I will be focusing on Health Communications for digital, web and print media as we move into 2021.

Favourite movie and why?

The Breakfast Club. Timeless teen rite of passage movie from the best era.

What’s one thing that you do for yourself every day?

I aim to exercise every day. I see a personal trainer twice a week and walk most other days. I roller skate once a week with my 14-year-old.

What mantra do you live by?

There’s always a solution.
