SHINE’ing the Spotlight on… Danielle MacKenzie
Throughout her career Danielle has tried to make a difference in people’s lives every single day. Originally as a nurse and more recently at the House With No Steps, Uniting Care Ageing, Lifeline Australia and now Sundale.
Complementing Danielle’s passion for aged care and ensuring older and vulnerable Australians have access to exceptional services is my commitment to staff and community empowerment.
Personally, her marriage to Scott and their daughter Jessica are, in her words, her greatest achievements.
Danielle, tell us about the different areas that you have worked and what brought you to the Sunshine Coast?
Throughout my career I have worked in various sectors, including aged care, disability and mental health.
A friend’s wedding originally brought my husband and I to the Sunshine Coast. We stayed on for a holiday and realised it would be a wonderful place to call home.
You are now working the CEO of Sundale – can you share three secrets to your success as a in an industry that is growing so rapidly? How do you do things differently?
There’s no doubt the sector is facing many challenges, however, I think the key to Sundale’s recent success is a new way of thinking. I encourage everyone within the business to be kind, courageous and compassionate leaders.
What traits do you think are important as a leader in business?
As a leader in business you must be honest and always act with integrity.
At Sundale, I’m regularly told I’m approachable and real, which is very important to me.
How do you keep balance in your life?
I’m really conscious of making time to connect with family and friends.
I also love to swim and surf.
And what’s next on the agenda for Danielle Mackenzie?
I am currently completing an MBA (Executive).
I’m also passionate about implementing Sundale’s Strategic Plan so we can continue to deliver exceptional services and support to people throughout the Sunshine Coast and Queensland more broadly.
Favourite movie and why?
Bridesmaids because it reminds me of my crazy Sydney friends.
Coast or City?
I was fortunate to grow up in the city, but I adore the coast (and the lifestyle I have). I genuinely have a love for both.
Who would you most like to meet and why?
Jacinda Ardern (New Zealand Prime Minister). Her leadership style resonates with me. I’d also love to have a conversation with her about leadership.
