Farewell 2019, HELLO 2020!

It’s that time of year where people are reflecting on the past year (or decade) to celebrate all that has been achieved and lay it to rest before immersing themselves into 2020. We are entering a brand new decade and the year of the Golden Rat (if you follow Chinese astrology ‘golden years’ are always very special!), and this is exciting.

A lot has happened in my life over the past decade. In 2010, my business celebrated its 10th birthday (in the form of Travelworld Mooloolaba), I had two young boys still in Primary School and we embarked on our first trip with me as a single parent (to Vietnam and Cambodia). We celebrated Qantas’ 90th Birthday, and got to meet CEO Alan Joyce and John Travolta at these celebrations which was exciting, and were hosted at Riverfire by Qantas which was amazing, to name a couple of highlights.

Fast forward ten years to now, and life is still expanding and thriving in the right direction. My business has just celebrated its 21st birthday, with three new divisions added over the past two to five years. My eldest son is now studying Law at university and my youngest son is about to embark on his Grade 12 year. We’ve undertaken a further ten overseas holidays together or as part of rugby tour groups, I welcomed new love into my life and co-incidentally went to Riverfire for the first time since 2010 also this year.

In recent months, I’ve started to realise a lifelong goal of studying at university, and have been studying a Masters of Leadership at Deakin University, pursuing new ideas in my business and the future is looking rosy.

It hasn’t all been easy, in fact the last eighteen months have been very challenging personally and at times I have worried if I have too much on my plate professionally and have questioned my direction and where I wish to head, just like anyone else. I don’t always get it right – do any of us really? And that’s OK.

I do believe that I tick a lot of boxes in regards to bringing many of my goals to fruition because I take the time to plan and to write them down. I now Goal Map my hopes and dreams, turning them into goals that are easy to focus on and bring to realisation.

Did you know that only 1% of people write down their goals? I was shocked at this statistic but it does also make sense as I often see many struggling. It’s proven that those who write down their goals, and then take action, are the ones that do attain their goals and make them a reality.

Everyone dreams, which is fantastic, as that is the start of the process. Not everyone (and actually most based on the above) chooses to turn these dreams into goals by writing them down, and this can honestly be the difference between making things happen and letting your dreams stay as exactly that, dreams in your head to be thought about for ‘one day’. Why not TODAY? Why not write them down and starting making things happen? Add pictures to your words and they will become even more powerful!

Let’s make sure we make the next decade our BEST decade (until the next one after this that is!), and it all starts now. It’s time to reflect on the decade and year that is about to close, and focus on making the next ten years even bigger and better. Who’s with me?

Happy New Year!
