Tell us about your passion for empowering women in a financial sense
For many years now I have been able to help women come to terms with where they are, and not be scared if they don’t like their bank account balance. I find once people come to terms with what has happened and can let it go, the magic of opportunity and money starts to flow. I call it getting out of your own way. Regardless of your financial situation it can change, whether you believe that or not will ultimately give you your results. Having been a single mum and supporting myself and creating wealth, it all comes down to mindset and hard work! I’m all about results.
Do women handle money differently to men?
Very much so. Women crave financial security and men crave success. Men will risk financial security in order to be successful, women will take less risks to be successful in order to maintain financial security. Both need education about money and how to handle it. I am very big on “not one guru” so by this I mean you must go to seminars, workshops, read, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH and don’t fall victim to anything that sounds too good. We all know how that works out. Been there done that. If you seek out financial advice seek it from at least 3 sources and then make your decision.
What career or personal achievement are you most proud of?
Having the courage to always do what I think is best for my family even though at times it can feel like swimming up-stream. Raising kids that are financially savvy, as I wasn’t. This has come from being brutally honest with them about my financial disasters both in property and shares as well as my wins. Fortunately they have copied the wins not the disasters!
What’s the key to a perfect work/life balance?
Where there is passion there is never balance. I think it comes down to self monitoring. I listen to my family and friends and if they are telling me I am rushed, too busy or too stressed, I now take stock and shut the engines down, turn everything off and most importantly I declare to everyone I am doing this. 24 hours later I am balanced and clear, and ready to go again. More loving and kind is always my aim but I have to work at it as I am a natural doer and steam train.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
To meditate. I prolonged doing this for a number of years but the benefits and results far outweigh any excuse I can possible make to not sit still for 15 minutes a day! Years later I am still forcing myself to do it daily and arguing with myself about it LOL.
